Gustavo de Aristegui is a former Spanish diplomat and Member of Parliament. In addition to postings in Iraq, Libya and Jordan, he served as Spain’s Ambassador to India, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and the Maldives. He was elected to Parliament from the Basque region for three terms and served as Shadow Foreign Minister from 2008-20012. Ambassador de Aristegui has a law degree from the Jesuit University of Madrid and has been awarded the rank of Spanish Commander of the Royal and Distinguished Order of King Charles III; the Great Cross of Civil Merit; and the Great Cross of Air Force. He is currently the Co-Founder of IberoAmerican Consultants, LLC and a member of the Board of the European Council of Foreign Relations and has authored four books on Arab politics and Islam.
